The conflict that is similar to the Federalist/Anti-Federalist
is that the Constitution does not cover all issues, or they disagree with it. The
people are making decisions for themselves, or rebelling. Such as Egypt’s
liberal factions being angry about women’s rights amendments, and the role of
religion. They walked out of the constituent assembly while their constitution
was being drafted. In “Pennsylvania
Minority” (1787), the delegates proposed a list of fourteen propositions for
consideration. After being insulted and rejected, they continued to voice their
objections from other angles. Similarly in Egypt, the Salafist, a Jihadist
movement among a Muslim sect, argued that the Constitution draft grants too
many personal freedoms. Their struggle
continues. The article states that they predict the Constitution will pass without
change by a large margin; which is also a similarity.

Where you shocked as I was after reading that article about Egypt? I think I took for granted for a long time just how lucky we truly are. We are so far advanced here and yet so far behind on other issues.
ReplyDeleteErin, I was also shocked at the article, I couldn't believe that was happening today. You are right, we are advanced, but yet behind on other issues.
ReplyDeleteErin,
ReplyDeleteForgive me for the late response. I fell behind and now I'm trying to catch up. Indeed I was a bit shocked at the treatment of these people. I just bear in mind that their cultures and traditions are different from ours. I'm happy that they are speaking up.
